My Review

Pieces For You follows Samantha’s recovery and journey into living again after her brutal attack and rape. Sam has always been the uplifting, funny, flirty BFF that has no filter and is known for her TMI moments, but now she feels shattered and hollow.

“If I don't talk, I can try to pretend it didn't happen. That it was just a nightmare I have yet to wake up from. If I open my mouth and say the words it becomes real, and if it's real, then I can never escape it.”

After Sam returns home from the recovery center, Everleigh and Hunter are there for her every step of the way. All they want is to see her find her way back and be happy again. There is one more person who wants nothing more than to see Sam’s beautiful smile light up her face and hear her laughter fill a room again…and that's Griffin.

Griffin has been in love with Sam for quite a while but never pursued anything with her because the timing was never right. Sam has never seen Griffin as anything more than a kinda-sorta-friend and bartender since she was in a relationship. While she was away, Griffin had become best friends with Hunter and Everleigh and is now an official part of their group and Thursday night dinner dates.

After Sam was attacked Griffin made a vow to himself never to let anything happen to her again. As much as it kills him he doesn’t go see her right away but after a couple of months he finally makes his way to her house for the weekly dinner and when Sam opens the door…Wow!

A big black t-shirt covered wall of hard muscle is what she sees. Her eyes travel…starting at his chest, makes their way down, down, down, and then slowly back up finally meeting his gaze and she can’t believe what she is seeing…or feeling. Its Griffin…well it’s a bigger, hotter version of the Griffin she remembers. And her libido (that has been nonexistent for months) is now rapidly making a reappearance at the beautiful sight before her. She’s a bit nervous obviously, but it is a welcome sight and feeling.

Beyond my control, my tongue darted out of my mouth and I covertly tasted the section of chest exposed above his tank. Oh god, he tasted even better than he smelled…

“Did you just…lick me?” sounding both shocked and amused.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

You licked me. I felt it,” he accused, but I noticed he wasn't complaining… “In fact, your welcome to have another taste.”

However, she’s not sure what to do about these returned feelings. She doesn’t know how much she can handle but one thing is for sure…she wants Griffin and she feels he is her key to a healthy recovery. He makes her feel safe, he’s fun and supportive, he would never intentionally hurt her and he doesn’t treat her like she is going to break…and that is exactly what she needs.

Griffin is amazing. He is so loving and supportive to Samantha. His love for her goes above and beyond and no matter what it costs him, he will do whatever he can do to keep her safe…even if it means losing her. She will always come first for him.

“This waiting—giving Sam the time she needed to fully trust me and to heal—may kill me, but I would suffer anything to have her.”

Sam’s journey is emotional but she is strong and she is a fighter. I was proud of Sam for her feistiness and independent attitude. She has been dealt a shit family but this book proves that family is not necessarily who you were born to…but who you create your life with.

Sam has a long road ahead of her filled with self-absorbed parents, preparation for the trial of the bastard that vandalized her, a stalker, and regaining her self-worth and self being. Her therapist, Thia (who rocks by the way) gives Sam “homework” assignments every week to challenge her.

“Got it; masterbate, bar hop, movie, eat. Should I take myself to dinner and a movie before I get frisky so I can still respect myself in the morning?”

Slowly you start to see pieces of the old Samantha coming back but also new ones forming. She will never be the girl she used to be…and she is ok with that. She just hopes she will be able to come out stronger and healthier than before.

“Perhaps I’ll never be the same, but the pieces missing will be filled with something else—new strength, love, hope, I’m not sure what exactly. I will be whole one day, just different from the original.”

It’s a heartfelt journey and her self-made family (Everleigh, Hunter, and Griffin) is always there for her. Everleigh was her rock, Hunter was her protector, and Griffin was her glue. But what happens when one of those people aren’t who you think they are? What happens when one of those people shatters your world for a second time taking you back to the horrific night that changed your life forever? Will Samantha be able to overcome her fears and anxiety and truly reclaim what little she has left of herself? Will she ever really be able to wholeheartedly trust someone again?

“There is still so much that needs healing (inside and out) but I'm no longer tethered to him. I am free, and for the first time I know it deep in my bones. He may have beat me, scarred me, shattered me in a million pieces, but I'm not under his control anymore...now I get to decide.”

Pieces For You is a standalone book but I would definitely recommend reading Only For You first. You will get a better idea of Samantha’s past and what has happened to her. You will also get more of Griffin and how his feelings started. Plus, you will want to read Hunter and Everleigh’s story. It’s amazing and they are very much a part of this book as well.
