Synopsis

When Knox Wellington opens the door to Charlie Davenport, he's not expecting the fiery brunette with whiskey colored eyes and a feisty personality. Sparks fly immediately, even though their initial meeting is nothing but hostile. Their chemistry is undeniable, but the chip on Knox's shoulder threatens to destroy any hope of him wooing the sweet, southern volunteer sent to help with his rehabilitation.

Little does he know she's no Southern Belle, as she gives as good as she can take. As unexpected circumstances push them closer together, heads butt, patience is tested, and flames ignite as they dance around their mutual attraction, both of them jaded from broken pasts.

They've both been burned before, so when their feelings of lust, desire, and wanting are inflamed in the heat of the moment, will they finally be able to get over the pain of the past or will their relationship be reduced to ashes before it can ever really begin?

*While this book is a standalone, characters from Ignite, book 1, will appear in Knox's story.

Story... Knox is injured in the line of duty and wakes up after being in a coma for 3 weeks. He wakes to his best friend Jace, brother Cohen and the woman who shattered his heart years ago, Megan Caldwell. Knox learned a very valuable lesson years ago because of Megan.

"Women are fucking blood suckers. Ready to suck the life out of you and then leave you high, dry, and heartbroken. Fuck women. Fuck them all." - Knox

Knox is on bed rest and needs someone to help him around his home and help him shower and put his brace on and off. He's not happy about it at all, he hates feeling weak and isn't looking forward to having some strange person in his home helping him dress and undress. Needing to get out he goes to the pub with Jace and Cohen.

Enter... Charlie is at the pub with her best friend Lucy trying to have a good time but not really feeling it, that is until a rugged handsome man walks in. Charlie can't keep her eye's off him. Later on the rugged man comes to the bar to order and Charlie just stares at him and then puts her hand out and introduces herself and is shot down by rugged very quickly.

"I am an asshole. That's not a secret, and I've never hidden it or shied away from being who I am." - Knox

Charlie is shocked and mortified that she put herself out there and was shot down just when her confidence definitely needed the boost.

Knox feels badly about how he treated the girl at the bar last night but knows he is in no position to start anything with anyone. When his new volunteer helper turns up Knox is blown away that it's the girl he shot down at the bar last night and Charlie isn't impressed at all either.

So Charlie starts helping Knox out with everything he needs, they start spending more time together and find that their routine is working out really well.

Charlie needs a place to move to as Lucy is heading home for the summer, and Jace manages to convince them both that Charlie should move in with Knox as she is there helping him all the time and they could help each other out at the same time. So Charlie does and soon Knox loves it that Charlie is there and he has someone to spend time with and not be so alone. But they do still butt heads a lot they are more alike than they realize and it causes them to argue a lot!

"He's sweet, he's an ass, he's warm, he's cold. He flirts, he scowls, he drives me absolutely crazy, but dammit if my heart doesn't melt when he smiles." - Charlie

The sexual tension builds and builds and both Charlie and Knox feel it simmering between them.

It becomes too much for Knox when he realizes Charlie is on a date with another guy and he freaks out and as soon as Charlie gets home he is on her, telling Charlie that she is his and then BAM! Fireworks! The sex was hot!!!

"I knew you'd look sexy when you came, and sweetheart, you took my fucking breath away." - Knox

Knox still has a lot from his past he needs to get over and deal with but he is determined to have Charlie and try and figure out the rest as they go.

Charlie and Knox find their footing in their relationship and it's beautiful to read about them being together, getting along, being intimate. Knox being so damn sweet because he would do anything for Charlie, he is blown away by Charlie and can't imagine being without her.

But Knox's trust issues get in the way and they struggle to find a way to move on while Knox still has these issues, but that leaves Charlie having to make a decision and it's heartbreaking...

Will Knox be able to find a way to get over his past and move on to his future with Charlie?

"I met a girl. A beautiful, intelligent, strong woman who taught me that all the pain from the past was worth it since it led me to her." - Knox
