Synopsis

Life throws you curve balls, but no parent should ever bury a child. Determined not to make the same mistakes with his son as he made with his daughter, Nic Beuve is single-minded until Hope walks into his life.

Hope Delaney, a woman with a past that almost broke her, tries to keep people at bay for their own protection. Fortunately for her, no one listens when she says she wants to be alone.

Burning desire, a deep need to protect, and a woman who looks like an angel breaks down Nic's defenses until he can’t ignore them. He wants Hope and what Nic wants…

Hope thinks she can walk away at any time she just wasn't counting on a man like Nic to get in the way, or a nosy but loving Cajun Boss. All's fair in love and war and what Maman Rose wants is Nic and Hope together.

Will their relationship survive an ex-wife with an agenda or will her past come between them... or kill them?

My Review

Once and a while if your lucky enough you stumble upon a book that reaches into you heart and soul affecting you emotionally as well as spiritually and you just know it’s a story you won’t ever forget. I feel that Restoring Hope is one of these books for me.

From the beginning with its descriptions of New Orleans: its culture, character introductions, the language and overall setting I was totally engrossed in wanting to read this story. I absolutely loved the Cajun talk and felt it was so perfectly embedded within the whole book, making the characters that much more believable.

I have never read a book by CP. Smith before and honestly I will be one-clicking the shit out of anything that this women has written and writes from now on.
I am truly a proud new CP. Smith fan girl!

I feel like this review is more of me writing a gushing fan letter, as I have been and continue to be smitten with Nic and Hope since the first few pages and my deep seeded connection with these two, and their story simply grew and grew on me the more and more I read.

This is the amazingly touching story of two damaged souls, Nic and Hope; Nic having lost his only daughter to a drug overdose and Hope on the run from an abusive past with her ex- husband and a brother in law who is bound and determined to find and kill her. Both have built up crazy walls and are reluctant to let others in, as they are each battling their own demons. That is of course until they meet each other. *Sigh*

With the help of the lovable and crazy hurricane of a woman that is Maman Rose, Nic and Hope don’t stand a chance of avoiding each other, no matter how hard they try. It’s clear from the moment that Nic and Hope meet that they feel a connection, and that no intervention from Maman is actually even needed.

I just loved getting to read what both Nic and Hope were thinking and feeling about the other at each moment. I think the story being told in the 3rd person perspective was perfect as all the emotions and thoughts were shared consistently throughout the book, rather than having to wait for each to have their chapter. Smith is an amazing writer and her style is so engaging, with each page I felt I was actually a part of the story, I could sooo feel and relate to all the emotions Nic and Hope were feeling.

As the story progresses we are witness to the amazing power of love. We see first hand how the right kind of love can actually play an integral part in healing the soul. For Hope and Nic once they allow themselves to feel, really be together honestly and truthfully allowing their love, friendship and trust to develop it creates an intense force to be reckoned with. And tested it is, but no matter how hard outside sources as well as their own internal struggles try to keep them apart and destroy what they’ve built their connection prevails and I am soooooo friggin’ happy that it does!
There were times when I wanted to jump in the book to lay the smack down, and sort some shit out let me tell you! Thank goodness for Maman when you need her! That woman is an amazing character and I thought she added so much to this story I simply adored her too!

Hope’s character is amazing! I loved her so much! Its not often we find a heroine with so much resilience and absolute bravery like Hope, she is a survivor and I felt so much respect and admiration towards her character. Despite having such a horrific past Hope never comes across as needy or a victim, she was never clingy or annoying, she just wanted to protect herself and those around her, even if it meant sacrificing her happiness. I found myself feeling so much compassion for Hope that all I wanted was making for her to get the happily ever after she deserves.

Nic, oh the man god that is Nic, he is honestly such an amazingly loving man who is sooo fucking sweet with the perfect blend of alpha. He is so supportive and sweet when needed but can turn alpha on a dime and boy is it HOT when he goes all alpha!

“Just so you know, I’m gonna kiss you now. You’re gonna protest, and I’m tellin’ you right fuckin’ now it’ll do no good.”

He is sex personified and I found myself totally swooning over this man as I read the story. I just loved how protective he is over the people he loved, especially his son Nicky and as the story moves along Hope. Seeing his character learn to forgive himself and ease up on the guilt he feels with the help of Hope was amazing and tugged so much on my heart strings.

“You made a promise to me, and you’re not breaking it.” “What promise?” she whispered, watching, as he got closer still, leaning in intimidating her. “The promise of something beautiful at the end of the day, the promise of you,” he whispered. “I’ve been in a fuckin’ nightmare for over a year and you stumbled into my life and turned me on my head. You gave me sweet; you gave me sass, and you gave me a fuckin’ headache from wanting you and tonight you gave me you, I’m holding you to that.”

Restoring Hope was an emotional roller coaster of a read for sure, as I read it I felt an array of emotions and I loved every single minute of this book.  I laughed, I cried, I swooned, gushed and blushed at some of the hot sexy scenes Smith so vividly pens and most importantly I felt it touched my heart. I highly recommend this book to everyone and think that it will take up a place in your book loving heart as it has mine.  And If I ever make it to New Orleans this book will totally come to my mind I’m sure of it!
