Ellie Anthony isn’t looking for love. She isn’t even looking for a man, but when Jax Mayson insists on keeping her and her daughter safe, she’s left with no choice but to trust him. Now she just hopes she doesn’t get hurt when she falls hard for a guy who’s known for breaking hearts.

Jax Mayson knows that Ellie is his BOOM the moment he sees her. When he finds out she has a daughter, he realizes he wants a family, and he will do whatever is necessary to keep both of his girls safe, even if that means facing the demons from his past.

Excerpt: Until Jax

“Thank you again for taking me.” Pulling my eyes from the road for a brief moment, I look at Ellie. Her head is resting against the window, her legs pulled up onto the seat, tucked near her ass, and her arms are wrapped tight around them. One thing I’ve noticed about her over the last few hours is she’s always wrapping her arms around herself or tucking her body into a tight ball. It’s like she’s forcing herself to stay together.

“I told you I got you, baby,” I say gently, wanting more than anything to take her hand in mine, but every time I touch her, she freezes up like she’s waiting for me to strike out at her, and I would be lying if I said that didn’t piss me the fuck off. It does; it feels like a slap in the face every time it happens.

“I know,” she whispers, and the tears I hear in her voice cause a sharp pain in my chest.

Fuck.

“This is the turnoff.” Her feet go to the floorboard and her hands to the dash as she sits up taller, moving her face closer to the windshield. We drive up a long dirt driveway with forest and the occasional broken down car on each side. When we make it to the top of the hill, a singlewide trailer comes into view, with junk cars and garbage piled up out front.

As soon as I come to a stop, she opens her door and hops out before I can tell her to keep her little ass in the cab. I don’t even know how I’m going to deal with the range of emotions that have settled over me since seeing her for the first time.

“Fucking Boom,” I mutter, getting out behind her and doubling my steps until I’m able to reach her side, where I wrap my hand around her waist and pull her closer to me. She’s so fucking tiny that the top of her dark head sits right at my chest. So fragile, from her too soft skin to her petite size. And she’s mine.

My Review

I was really looking forward to reading Until Jax when I saw that it had hit my kindle, and who could blame me.  The Cover alone is enough to make any woman drool and after I had read the blurb I was hooked and needed to know more.

The book begins with Ellie in hospital, brought in by Jax after he discovers her in the woods in a bad way and rescues her.  He experiences what he describes as his "boom" moment after he sees her, and knows he will do anything from this point forward to protect her.  This book is heavy on the instalove, which is something the author promotes the book as being, but for me this is where it got confusing.

Having not read any of Aurora Rose Reynolds books before, and this being the first book in the series, I was expecting much more details about how these two character came together and what Ellie had been through before she left the woods.  While it does go into some details through the book, I didn't feel that it was enough to make me connect with Ellie especially, and I spent the first few chapters trying to understand what was going on and who certain people were in the story, and it really left me feeling as though I was missing the first half of the story.

For those of you who have read the other books in the series, let me just congratulate the author on one smoking hot alpha male.  Jax was my favourite character by far in this book.  He is an Alpha male through and through, a smoking hot, reformed (if only very recently) manwhore - which comes back to bite him in the arse through the book, but at the same time he just melted my heart with his personality and the way he interacted with Ellie's daughter who was just unbelievably adorable.

Ellie was sweet, and the bond she developed with Jax's family was nice to read, but it was hard at times for me to understand her character and how she could so easily trust all these strangers when she had just been through such a horrible event.  I did enjoy reading the scenes between her and Jax though, especially the light hearted moments where they were just being smartarses to each other.

My recommendation for anyone like me who is starting out reading Aurora Rose Reynolds books with Until Jax, is to go back and read Until July first to get the full experience of the story and to gain more understanding of Jax and Ellie's characters.

But if you are looking for a fluffy, easy, instalove read with some steamy sex scenes with an Alpha with Abs that will make you forget your own name, then Until Jax just might be the read for you

Tattooed Emotions Synopsis:

Raelyn Jennings has survived the unthinkable. She’s been given a second chance to live, to breathe, to feel. Her ability to overcome such a traumatic hurdle has created armor around her heart. But beyond her shield is fear, a consuming deep one, of the unknown. Raelyn vows to herself that she’ll solely focus on the one constant in her life, her career as the CEO for a prestigious accounting firm.

Damien Heathman’s unrelenting determination has made him a powerful, respected man. He’s sexy and confident and utterly breathtaking. His dominance and strength is evident in every purposeful stride, every meaningful look, and every soft caress.

Raelyn has worked with Damien’s company, Heathman Enterprises, for many years, but they’ve never crossed paths—until now.

Damien’s presence fills a room. He steals Raelyn’s breath and sparks her broken heart back to life. Once Damien sets eyes on Raelyn, there is no turning back. He wants her, and he’ll stop at nothing to have her. Not even the dark secrets hidden behind his tattoos will stand in his way.

The chemistry is undeniable. The passion is palpable.

Can Damien convince Raelyn that he is worth the risk? Or will Raelyn allow her past to control her future, feeling the chance of another heartache is too great to bear?

Goodreads   Exclusive Excerpt: Damien lightly laid me on the bed, removed my towel, and tucked me beneath the sheets. “Do you need anything? Water, saltines, anything?” Concern filled his features once again. “No.” I smiled. “I’m fine. Just tired.” He nodded his acknowledgment, and then he walked to the bathroom door while pulling his soaking wet shirt from his back. He tossed it on the chair, every muscle flexing with his movements. I might have been tired, but that didn’t stop me from being stunned into silence as my body flamed to life at the sight of his bare torso. My greedy eyes traveled from one end of his shoulder to the other, drinking in the beauty of his ink. Without glancing at me, he sauntered over to his dresser to pull out a dark-colored shirt. “Don’t,” I whispered, feeling my heart stop beating in my chest. It destroyed me a little every time he concealed this part of himself from me. I knew something awful had happened to Damien and that he didn’t want to talk about it, but him hiding it from me hurt beyond any other physical pain I’d ever experienced. His arms paused midair, and he gazed over his shoulder. From his side profile, I saw the instant his body tensed, and his jaw clenched. “Please…” I swallowed thickly and dug for courage. “You want me to stay. And I want to lie with you…with nothing between us.” I realized I was being unfair, but I was that desperate. A visible tremor shook through him. It felt as though an eternity had passed before he spoke, “Don’t touch them.” My heart swelled within its confined space. He was going to trust me. “I won’t,” I breathed in relief. “I promise.” “Don’t ever break a promise to me, Raelyn.” He slowly lowered his arms and pivoted to face me. “So, don’t make one if you can’t keep it.” “I keep my promises,” I vowed with the utmost sincerity. “As do I. Always.” His voice was reverent.

My Review

My poor heart! Tattooed Emotions took all my feels, mashed them, mended them, broke them again, then started stitching them back up right before the ending had me screaming, "No! It can't end yet?!" This beautiful book and it's range of emotions had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and left me wanting and absolutely needing more.

Raelyn has survived more than her fair share of tragedy in her lifetime. Most recently she's been given a second chance at life after a life-altering diagnosis. Coming to terms with her life and who was left in in, she has guarded her heart and only lets a few select breech her walls. Damien also has secrets and a life of pain he hides behind a successful and dominating facade. When these two meet through a mutual acquaintance, Raelyn's life is altered once again in more ways than one. Damien's presence is a shock to Raelyn's carefully laid plans and he makes it known that he always gets what he wants and he wants Raelyn.

There are so many layers to this story and I feel like, days after finishing, I'm still peeling them back. Both Damien and Raelyn have been hurt and both are holding themselves back. Neither wants to open the flood gates but it seems inevitable. I loved watching these two together. It was beautiful and a little heartbreaking at the same time. Damien was an absolutely swoon-worthy dominate alpha devoted to winning and being worthy of Raelyn. Once Raelyn finally opened up, the sparks flew and so did the heat off my Kindle.

By the end I was smiling and swooning and then smacked with a cliffy that left me wanting more for both Damien and Raelyn as well as some answers to things that were left open. Don't be scared by the cliffy though, because I'm sure Ms. Rae is going to give up the most epic ending ever. At least that's my fervent prayer. These two deserve the best ending.

My life was full of nevers.

It was never supposed to go this way. I was never supposed to lose Mom so soon. I was never supposed to worry about making ends meet, to worry about losing the farm. I never thought I’d be working a job I hate, with a boss who was more interested in what was under my shirt than in my head. Saving neglected and abused horses had been my whole life. It was my reprieve, my sanity, my last saving grace in a cruel world. I never thought I’d grow to resent it, but I guess there is a first for everything.

Then I met him.

The Hollywood playboy. The entitled, cocky asshole that I can’t get out of my head. I never thought there could be more to him than sex appeal and an infamous reputation of loving and leaving. I never thought I’d fall for him, put my heart on the line, and risk letting him completely destroy me.

But you know what they tell you…never say never.

Review

This is the story of Haley and Aiden. Haley is a country girl who wants to live her life rescuing and re-homing horses. She's close to graduating and her dreams are close to coming true when tragedy strikes and she loses her mom on a rescue. Aiden is a Hollywood starlet. He's the British actor on the up and up who appears to have everything that anyone could ever wish for. Fame, fortune and adoration are all his but in reality he's just playing a part and burying his real self. Haley gets a job at a local newspaper to make some much needed money and lands an interview with Aiden while he films his latest film nearby. The story goes from here.
I have mixed feelings on this book. I really enjoyed both characters. Both were relate-able and likable. There were many sides to both of them and i really enjoyed their relationship. But... i think sometimes throughout the book their story was overshadowed by too much detail on the horses and their treatment. Don't get me wrong some of this was needed but for me i think in places it was too much and i would rather have had more Haley and Aiden. There were some parts where weeks or months was skipped over in their relationship and i would rather have had some of that filled in than details of what food horses eat and the treatments for injuries were. There is a really good message in this book about second chances and seeing past peoples flaws. Also to live each day as it comes because life is really too short.

There were some quite emotional bits in here that really pull on the heart strings and i was really happy with the ending Haley and Aiden got.

I would recommend this book to anyone especially horse lovers. Please be warned that if you have recently lost someone some parts of this book may be difficult to read. Overall it was an enjoyable story.

Excerpt

A tear rolls down her cheek and she bites her lip, trying not to cry. Then her face breaks and her shoulders slump forward. I stand there, shaking, terrified of the raw emotion. My heart breaks for her and I rush forward, wrapping her in my arms as she sobs. It’s beautiful and it’s tragic, and in that moment, I’ve never felt anything more real. The pain. The sorrow. Her loss. The darkness I try to hard to keep out, that I fight tooth and nail but can never fully avoid. I hold her and feel it all. It swarms around me, filling me, hurting me, opening my eyes. I realize everything I’ve done to desperately hold it together slowly chipped away at me until there was nothing left, nothing but a shell of a man with an empty heart that I never though was capable of feeling anything but hurt. A heart I thought was never worthy of a second chance, was never capable of redemption. It’s then that I realize I never, ever want to let her go. And it’s crazy, because I don’t know her—really know her—but there is something so intimate about holding someone as they cry. It exposes so much, and you can’t hold back as the tears fall and the sadness comes out in waves. I feel my own eyes mist over. I close them and cradle Haley close to me. “There’s nothing wrong with you,” I tell her. “I promise you that.” “Look at me,” she repeats. “Have you ever had a date end this way?” “Our date didn’t even start,” I say. “And hey, you didn’t go crazy and shave your head, so I say you’re doing all right.” She laughs, and her arms slowly wrap around me. Something inside me relaxes. I sit and pull her onto my lap and we stay there in silence for a few minutes. Gently, I push her hair out of her face. “Want that drink now?” She laughs again and nods. “I need that drink now.” She stands up and wipes her eyes, smearing her makeup across her cheeks. “And really, I won’t hold it against you or call the tabloids on you if you drop me off at home and call it a night.” Tabloids? The word is jarring. For a few minutes I was the real Aiden again…and I didn’t mind. “It’s up to you, Haley. I’m not mad or upset, so don’t worry. I don’t like seeing you sad, and if you’d like, I want to try and cheer you up.” “I’d like that.” I stand and drape my arm around her. “Are you hungry? I can go get the food.” “I am. And thanks, Aiden. I…I don’t know.” “What?” I probe. “I’m surprised by your kindness.” “Ouch,” I say with a chuckle. “Thanks?” She smiles and takes a step toward the restaurant. “Hey, you can’t really blame me, can you?” I can’t, because I’ve fooled the world—and at times, myself—about who I really am. The partying, the women, the excessive spending, and run-ins with the American law…okay, so maybe I had a reputation. “No, I can’t. But I’m glad I surprised you.”

Excerpt

“Is that right?” He reaches for me, taking my face in his hands, and rewards me with a deep kiss. His lips press into mine and I open my mouth to him willingly. The strokes of his tongue across my bottom lip instantly heat my blood. Goose bumps cover my skin and my legs want to open to him. His tongue pushes into my mouth and I push back, showing him I’m willing and definitely wanting in this. But he pulls away and moves down my jaw to my neck, taking my pulse with each kiss. I moan, unable to stop myself. Do that again. Keep kissing my neck, there… again.

I melt as he trails kisses across my collarbone and up the other side of my neck. He takes his time. Lazy licks and wet kisses continue until he reaches my ear. As his teeth close around my lobe, my pussy pulses at the wild desire he stirs within me. He bites a fraction harder, kicking my lust up to knicker-wetting levels. Jeez!

“I could make this last all evening, Isabel. I think you would be happy for that.” His whisper titillates as his hand runs up the inside of my leg. Passing the top of my thigh highs, he slides his hand to my pussy. His touch is barely there before he slides under the edge of my knickers and strokes down my slit.

“Oh, Isabel, wet already and I’ve barely touched you.” His velvet words send shivers down my spine. I try to readjust my sitting position so he can touch me deeper. The ache from my sex screams for attention, for Seb to do more, push his finger inside me, here in the kitchen.

“No, Isabel. You’ve been a naughty girl this week and haven’t completed your homework. As much as I would love to make you come with nothing other than my hand, I have much more planned.”
