From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.   Growing up, the three of us were friends. He was the nerd. I was the playboy. She was the beauty.   Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits. He lied.   I went off to college, and he got the girl. Amber never knew how I felt. They were together for years—before he broke her heart.   Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch. When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.   Still reeling from her breakup, she’d sworn off men. One night, I opened her computer to find the shock of my life. She’d hesitantly contacted a male escort company. Afraid to date and get her heart broken again, she was looking for sex with no strings. Every emotion imaginable ran through me: protectiveness, jealousy—curiosity. Amber had chosen Gentleman Number Nine and sent him a message. She opened up to him, confessing, among other things, her physical attraction to her friend— me. But she considered me off-limits—and she thought I was a manwhore. (Ironic, considering the circumstances.) Eventually, she set up a date to meet Gentleman Nine at a hotel. When she showed up several nights later to meet him, she got the surprise of her life to see me standing there—with an offer I hoped she wouldn’t refuse.

   My Review  4 “Choices” Stars

One of the best parts of a Ms. Ward novel is that at some point I’m always surprised. I love that. And Gentleman Nine gave me my surprise. It made my heart race in exactly the right way. This book was also so sweet, it made me laugh, and gave me all the feels.

Gentleman Nine is a friends to lovers romance between Channing and Amber. Amber is going through a breakup of her years long relationship and Channing is in town for a few months for work and needs a place to stay. As these two friends reconnect, Amber realizes that her crush never completely went away and Channing is coming to realize that the one time manwhore might be ready for something else especially when he finds Amber soliciting the help of Gentleman number Nine to get her back in the game. What starts as him trying to save Amber from something he knows she’ll regret, turns into something much more than either expected. But both have reasons for why they’ve never moved out of the friend zone and it seems things are only more complicated now.

This book started off a bit differently than I expected and took some time to build momentum, but once it got going, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I loved the banter between Channing and Amber. I loved that we got to see a bit of each of them separtatly before seeing them together. And of course, as with all Ms. Ward books, just when things were looking up, something came out of left feild and left my heart racing. I felt their torment and their longing. I also felt their connection but understood everything that came to make them who they were together. In the end I was left more than satisfied and in love with Channing and Amber.          Penelope Ward is a New York Times, USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal Bestselling author.
